To get a better general idea of firmness, I polled a range of folks in the office and we settled on a firmness level rating together. It’s important to highlight that firmness is subjective, and my opinion might be totally different from yours. When I talk about feel, I like to start with firmness, because it’s likely to give you the best idea of how you’ll experience the mattress. The Nectar Classic has always had a 12-inch profile, but recently changed the thickness of its different foam layers. This layer provides the mattress with some nice support and helps keep the sleeper from sinking too far into the mattress. This foam adds bounce and helps prevent the sleeper from sinking all the way through the memory foam to the firm base layer.īase Layer – Lastly is a base support layer made of seven inches of high-density foam. Transition Layer – Next up is a 3-inch layer of what Nectar calls dynamically adjusting foam. You’ll experience some deep compression support through this layer. This foam is more cooling than traditional memory foam, but still has a very contouring feel. It features heat wicking technology and a soft, breathable feel.Ĭomfort Layer – The top layer of the Nectar is made of two inches of gel memory foam. It’s made with CertiPUR-US® Certified foam, so it’s free of harmful chemicals, heavy metals, and ozone depleters.Ĭover – The Nectar’s mattress cover is a cooling cover made from a quilted polyester/nylon blend. The Nectar is a memory foam bed that has a 12-inch profile. The Nectar is a bed-in-a-box mattress, which means it comes compressed in a box and will take some time to decompress. Cooling is beneficial for those who overheat at night or those who live in warmer climates, but a super cooling mattress isn’t always a necessity. You might notice the Nectar scored a bit lower in cooling and edge support. Overall, I rated this mattress at a 4.3 out of 5, and you can see my individual scores for all of our testing categories at the end of the video. Watch my video of the Nectar get a closer look at its construction, as well as my testing methods. Read more about off-gassing and other mattress terminology in our mattress glossary. We recommend leaving your new mattress in a well-ventilated room and avoid adding sheets for about 24 hours. When testing the Nectar, we found it should finish off gassing in one to three days as it releases the gasses that were trapped when it was packaged. Because of this, you might notice an off-gassing period upon first opening it. This mattress is a bed-in-a-box, so it ships compressed in a package to your doorstep. That’s why the Nectar is equipped with a cooling gel-infused foam comfort layer, as well as high-density foam for support. But it also strives to excel in areas that memory foam mattresses often lack, especially support and cooling. The Nectar is a memory foam mattress, and embodies many of the traits these beds are famous for: a contouring and slow-sinking feel.
